The subjunctive
The subjunctive (or the use of infinitive verbs without “to”) is used to emphasize urgency
or importance. It’s used after certain verbs, certain expressions and in informal, impersonal English.
In more informal language, “should” is used especially after the verbs “suggest”, “recommend”
and “insist”.
Example: The teacher insisted that he stop making noise.
